2nd Place World Skills
Mathew recently competed in the fabrication stage of the world skills competition at Wollongong TAFE.
Mathew competed against seven other contestants from various local companies. Mathew was the only second year apprentice in the field all other contestants were third and forth year apprentices.
The contestants had to complete a fabrication module within an eight hours time limit. The job consisted of various aspects of the fabrication trade with the development of a pipe section and the fabrication of tapered channel section. Mathew was marked on his ability to understand the given drawing, his accuracy in marking and development of layout, his ability to organize materials and only use the materials supplied, his attention to detail and accuracy to the supplied drawings and time management.
On inspection of the completed jobs it was very hard to pick out a winner but when broken down into the marking categories Mathew's job stood head and shoulders above his rival competitors and his accuracy and attention to detail out shone the rest Mathew is in a position where he can compete again in two years time.
With this great result he has set himself up in a good position to possibly represent Australia at the world skills competition. Congratulations Mathew!
