Grocon Pty Ltd - Sydney
Principle contractor: Grocon Pty. Limited
Scope of works: Sydney GPO No.1 Martin Place Project
Allfab Constructions Pty Limited were contracted to fabricate and install steelwork for the redevelopment of Sydney’s General Post Office, a heritage listed Victorian Building dated between 1865 and 1899.
The project combined a 4 storey heritage building restoration with a 31 level hotel tower construction linked by an enclosed glass roofed courtyard. Allfab was engaged by Grocon to complete the fabrication and installation of structural steelwork in the sensitive heritage area and also the office and hotel plantrooms. Work had to be completed within the guidelines of the Heritage Act which made the structural strengthening of the building difficult, with very large and long welded beams having to be rigged into position as no craneage was permitted in the heritage section.
Altogether approximately 235 tonnes was supplied, fabricated and installed for the project.
Allfab’s onsite capabilities also lead to additional work being undertaken including the steelwork for the glass roofed courtyard and ballroom areas of the hotel.
